Athens, AL has a new gem ✨ — The Salty Cod, sister pub to Huntsville’s beloved Poppy & Parliament.
The vibe? Clean and classy without losing that warm, pub energy. 🍻 The food? Balanced, flavorful, and clearly made with love. Jess thought the chicken tenders leaned a little salty, but the chicken itself was juicy and perfectly cooked. My plate was a dream of flavors layered just right.
And the drink highlight: our very first Pimm’s Cup — refreshing, light, and everything we hoped it would be after hearing about it in books for years. 🍹
Bonus joy: the bakery looked absolutely divine, and our server, Nina, was so attentive that she had our needs met before we even voiced them. 💛
Final verdict? We’d happily eat here again. Highly recommend a visit — you won’t be disappointed.

I sat by the creek at Green Mountain, trying to quiet my spirit and “find my seat.” The forest wrapped around me, but self-doubt still whispered: Am I on the right path? Am I listening? 🌿
Then, a flicker — first I thought dragonfly, then butterfly. But as it came closer, I realized… a hummingbird. Tiny, black, radiant. It hovered right before me, darted side to side, and then disappeared into the trees.
In our traditions, birds are messengers. Hummingbirds especially carry resilience through challenge, along with joy, hope, excitement, and good news.
Today, my answer came in wings. ✨

This morning on Green Mountain at the Land Trust I was slowly walking the trail, taking pictures of plants to identify, when a soft, smooth energy rose up beside me and gently cradled the left side of my face. It felt at first like a man — then shifted to a woman — maybe neither, maybe both. Androgynous, or simply presenting how it pleased. The voice was singular but felt somehow plural, like an old council that speaks with one mouth.

They kept that tender pressure along my side as I walked, a touch like a lover or a doting mother. They purred, “Such a pretty girl.” I answered quietly, “But I’m not a girl at all. I haven’t been for so long. See my greying hair?” They laughed softly. “To us you’re a little girl — pretty, sun-danced skin. Even when you’re old and bent with a head of gray, to us you are the same. Your kind ages so fast. Your life is so short.”

In my bones I felt the name: Fae. It’s been a long while since I stood in such a presence. Still feeling that touch, I looked around, the trees bending into canopies felt like a hush, like places where fairy weddings might be held. “See the patterns?” they said. “Those are maps made by the beetles. We all work together. Everything in this forest has a plan and a job.” It was simple, intimate teaching.

They told me they favor those who are quiet: those who take only what is given, who listen with the inside-of-self, who feel before they speak. I believe because of this meeting I was visited by a hummingbird, guided to sit on a stump, and shown an astonishing fallen tree — a magic map of the forest floor. I felt granted the gift of truly seeing the small miracles all around me. 🐦🌿✨

I’ll post the magic map tree, the tenacious beetle, the hummingbird story, and my daily Tarot pull through the day. Also — we’ve decided on destinations and our route for the next couple of weeks after we leave here! I cannot wait to share more of this magical, beautiful world with you. 🧭🌙💫

Today I’m deep in my Psychology of Meditation and Journey of Buddhism courses, and it’s such a reminder that what we “feed” our minds with matters just as much as the food on our plates. The words we read, the stories we carry, the truths we seek—these shape how we think, feel, and move through the world.

Learning, reflecting, and writing isn’t just academic for me—it’s part of my spiritual practice. Every page I turn is a way of tending the inner garden, making sure my spirit has the clarity, balance, and strength it needs to grow. 🌱

Today I smudged our home with a blend I created, guided by Spirit:

🌿 White Copal
🌿 Myrrh
🌿 Frankincense
🌿 Rosemary
🌿 Lavender Buds

As the smoke moved through the rooms, Spirit reminded me: what we carry can be released, what clings can be cleared.

Food and laughter are medicine for the spirit. They ground us, connect us, and remind us that joy is as sacred as ritual.

Tonight we had our “planning dinner” at one of our Huntsville favorites — Guadalajara Mexican Restaurant (11208 Memorial Pkwy SW). The food was delicious, the company grounding, and the laughter unstoppable.

As we walked in, an elderly couple entered just ahead of us. The tiny white-haired lady, leaning on her cane, suddenly declared: “NO MARGARITA TONIGHT! LET THEM KNOW!” It took everything in me not to giggle right then and there. (And for good reason — those margaritas at Guadalajara are STRONG! 🍹😂)

It’s in moments like these — over good food, shared stories, and unexpected laughter — that Spirit reminds us we are fed in more ways than one.

The First Nation tribes of the Cherokee held the free-flowing waters of rivers and streams as sacred. They would “go to the water” — a phrase we still use today. This practice meant immersing oneself in a stream or river to cleanse the spirit and body, releasing negativity and preparing for renewal. Similar to baptism, but not saved only for rare ceremony. Instead, it was — and still is — an invitation to become new again and again.

Here in Madison County, this very real and local place has been used for centuries to bring a renewal of spirit. The water is living energy, carrying away heaviness and refreshing our heads. 🌊✨

May we remember that the act of renewal isn’t reserved for once-in-a-lifetime moments, but something we are encouraged to partake in often. Every flowing river is an altar of rebirth.

✨ Today I felt stuck — weighed down by brain fog, the overwhelm of packing our home for the next journey, and the heaviness of transition.

So I turned to Spirit and made medicine for my mind and spirit in the form of soap. Every ingredient chosen with care, prayer, and intention:

🌿 Herbal tea of hyssop, rue, agrimony & lavender buds
💧 A splash of sacred water
💧 A splash of Florida Water
🙏 A whispered prayer for clarity, focus & renewal
